Nautilus only uses the best quality fibres. We highly respect our environment with great emphasis on our Oceans. We ask that used ropes are disposed of by recycling, rather than be discarded polluting our globe.

The Factory and Staff

Nautilus Braids is a 100% NEW ZEALAND owned and operated company, specialising in the design and manufacture of high performance ropes, using state-of-the-art machinery and sourcing the best quality imported fibres to produce customised ropes of varying sizes, construction and colour.

Nautilus Braids are a dynamic team of dedicated ropemakers with over 60 years of combined experience in research, rope and yarn making. Our mission is to make the highest quality ropes with state-of-the-art machinery whilst providing very cost competitive products that do not compromise performance.

Ian McFarlane set up the company in 1994, based on the philosophy of low cost and low overheads, using the most modern braiding equipment. Ian has designed and built our own twisters to incorporate flexibility and develop higher performance products. We use the best quality imported fibre to produce the highest quality braided ropes.

The Nautilus Braid team are a dynamic group of dedicated rope-makers with over 50 years combined experience in research, rope and yarn making. We are able to make products to suit your requirements.

We specialise in manufacturing customised products for the discerning buyer.

No Job is TOO big or TOO small!

Our factory is located outside Christchurch in a rural environment allowing our overheads to be minimal whilst still using the most modern, state-of-the-art machinery.

Ian McFarlane
Director/Owner

Worked for Wool Research Organisation for 30 years as a Senior Scientist Research Leader. Extensive scientific background in textiles, product innovation and management. Keen sailor, fisher and diver.

Denis Maddever
Manager

Background as senior research scientist in textiles. Also a keen sailor in classic yachts.

Verna Black
Accounts/Administrator

Verna looks after accounts and general administration keeping the factory planning and production on track.
Also loves sailing.

Gary Harvey
Manufacturing Technician

Gary has an extensive background in textile processing and machine maintenance. Gary has developed a specific interest in producing fine high performance braids for specific applications.

Steven Shadwell
Manufacturing Technician

Steven is new to the team and co-ordinates the twisting, winding and production path through the factory.
